Back in 2018, The City of Fishers invested in and acquired 70-acre waterfront property at Geist Reservoir to create a waterfront park, a wonderful addition to Fishers Parks’ robust list of recreational facilities. The park will be developed at the last remaining parcel of the 1,900-acre reservoir. In May of 2021, the initiative took off when City of Fishers officials broke ground on the Geist Waterfront Park project. Precisely, the park is located at 10811 Olio Road, near 111th Street and the east side of Olio Road.

The Geist Waterfront Park will feature a plethora of recreational areas, from a beach to walking trails to open green space to a non-motorized boat launch. When the land was purchased by the City of Fishers, officials made it a goal to ensure public access to Geist Reservoir. However, once the project concludes, the park will be the only area open to public access in the reservoir.

The first phase of the project features the construction of the beach, dock access, and a playground, among other amenities, with a budget of approximately $15 million. Phase 1 is set to be open in the spring of 2023. Set for a later date, other conceptual designs of the park show the potential of development, which include a fishing dock, public beach, kayak, boardwalk, natural playscapes, and opportunities for adventure races, triathlons, paddle boarding, and more. Additionally, Fishers residents will have the opportunity to get involved in the park’s final design.

Mayor Scott Fadness spoke on the park project in a statement. He shares, “The Geist area is one of Fishers’ most distinct assets, and this park sets forth a momentum for the long-term sustainability of Geist Reservoir, its residents, and our community at large.” Fadness adds, “In conversations with multiple residents and stakeholders, I’ve heard time and time again the argument that the long-term vibrancy of Geist is a concern. Part of that involves environmental, boat traffic, and new development. My hope is that this park development helps to mitigate those concerns for residents and turn Geist into a distinct asset for all of Fishers.”

Although the official public opening of Geist Waterfront Park won’t be until Spring 2023, Fishers Parks and the Fishers Parks Foundation are hosting the Geist Waterfront Park Preview Night on Saturday, November 19, from 4 to 6 PM!
